Why the Political Science major?
I get this question a lot as someone who wants to go into a seemingly-unrelated career field. I used to want to go to law school and pursue a career in civil rights law or trademark law, and Political Science fit my plan the best. By the time I realized that my true passions lied in design, it was too late to change my major. I do believe there are some intersections between the two; I’ve learned about survey design and methods in some classes, and lessons about game theory have applications in understanding why users do the things they do.
Throughout my time at Berkeley, I’ve tried to find ways for my undergraduate career to prepare me for the design industry. By completing a Human-Centered Design Certificate, working on design consulting projects every semester with Berkeley Innovation, and refining my skills with shippable projects at Ubiquity Press, I believe I’ve prepared myself to succeed in the design industry, though I’m excited for all the learning and growth for me ahead.

Shout-Outs
I also wanted to use this space to acknowledge and give thanks to a few individuals who have been massively influential in my journey in design. I’m definitely standing on the shoulders of giants and owe a great deal of gratitude to them.
